Ilana AND joseph Englander

GUESTS of HONOR

Ilana and Joseph Englander moved to White Plains 15 years ago, the day after they were married.  Their three children, Ben, Tzvi and Avishai were all born in White Plains and are growing up at YIWP.

Having proven his credentials by helping to clean out the shul storage room, Joseph was elected to the Board of YIWP in 2005 and served as President from 2008-2011.  During his time as President, Joseph's list of accomplishments is long and diverse including purchasing the house at 33 Overlook Road, renegotiating the shul's mortgage, and significantly reducing expenses in other areas.  After his term as president Joseph has continued to be involved in all aspects of the shul from programming to operations to daily maintenance.  Joseph grew up in Spring Valley, NY and attended the University of Michigan where he was active in various Jewish organizations and served as AIPAC liaison.  After college, Joseph worked for Israel Bonds in Cincinnati for three years leaving in 1995 to attend Columbia Business School and obtain his MBA.  Joseph is the owner of North End Fitness and Training in New Rochelle.

Ilana has served the shul in different capacities, including the shul dinner committee, leading the fundraising efforts for the journal, and planning speaker events and chesed programs.  Ilana has been on the YIWP shiva committee for six years and is currently co-chair of the committee.  Ilana was recently honored in 2015 as Kallat Torah on Simchat Torah.  Ilana grew up in Chappaqua, NY and attended Brandeis University.  Ilana studied at Hebrew University for a semester, and learned at Shearim in Israel after she graduated.  In 1995, Ilana attended Columbia Business School where she met Joseph and received her MBA.   Ilana is a Vice President at Morgan Stanley and spends her time managing operational risk for the Private Bank.

Together Ilana and Joseph have been active members of the White Plains community and strong supporters of Westchester Day School (WDS) where all three of their boys have attended since Ganon.  Ilana was active on the WDS Board for 5 years and was a member of the search committee to identify the current head of school.  Ilana and Joseph were honored by WDS in 2012 with the Young Leadership Award.  "We are truly fortunate to have found a wonderful community in White Plains, a home at YIWP, and a warm and loving school for our children."
