Joyce and Reuvaine Kinches
Danielle and Sam Kinches were asked why they thought that their Mom and Dad had been chosen to be honored by the Young Israel of White Plains at this year’s Annual Dinner. Below are some of the highlights of their responses:
Our parents are an awesome choice for this honor because they are involved in lots of important things at our shul. Since we were little, they have been helping to run groups, organizing fun things for the kids and taking us to Burke and Esplanade on Chesed trips with Rabbi Greenberg. My Dad wakes up early to be the gabbai at the Hashkama minyan and then stays at shul to help out with davening or Kiddush. Mommy works to bring learning to our shul—she worked on the Scholar in Residence committee, runs the Miriam Klein Shapiro lecture series and goes to the Rabbi’s class during the week. She is always involved in doing things that help other people—she cooks for new families who move into the neighborhood, brings over treats and food when a baby is born in the community and she started and runs the toy drive at YIWP every Chanukah. We think she even served on the board a few years ago, but we think she snuck out to meetings once we were asleep, so we really can’t be sure. Daddy is an accountant (and a great leyning coach!!) and Mommy teaches kids with special needs and they both use their skills from work to help out however they can at our schools, shul and in our neighborhood.
The things that stick out the most to us, other than them being fun to be with and not always that embarrassing in public, is how much they care about the people and the world around them. They teach us by example the importance of not only doing lots of mitzvot but doing them with joy and the value of being of a good person, a good friend and a good Jew. For all of these reasons and so many more (they are great chauffeurs, sports cheerleaders and theater groupies!!), we think that you guys made a fabulous choice by honoring our parents at the dinner.
Mazal tov, Mommy and Daddy—we love you so much!!! You rock!!
