Yael and sandy rosenberg

Sandy and Yael moved to White Plains just over 10 years ago with their son Jonathan after realizing they were outgrowing their one bedroom New York City apartment. Ari and Maya are true White Plains natives having been born at White Plains Hospital. Soon after moving, Sandy and Yael decided to join the Young Israel because of the warm and friendly vibe they found there. They have both been involved in many different areas of the shul and wherever one is involved, you can be sure the other is helping out as well!

Sandy serves on the security committee and the shiva committee and is a regular minyan attendee. For many years now, he has been an integral part of the dinner committee, working countless hours to solicit raffle prizes and ads (as one of the raffle chairs once said, Sandy puts the "raffl" in our raffle!). Sandy can always be counted on to step up to help with whatever is needed -- from making a minyan, to moving boxes & chairs, to putting out the trash! Sandy is also a cheerful presence in the shul whose warm and welcoming ways makes everyone feel at home.

Yael has been an active member of the board for 6 years and currently serves as a Vice President. She is also a member of the youth committee and co-chair of the Family Learning Night program. A big proponent of chesed events, she introduced the holiday cookie bake where children bake and deliver cookies and cards to local first responders who have to work on their holiday. Yael is always trying to help someone -- you can often find her helping in the kitchen, trying to keep order in the hallway or making a meal for a family in need. She has been a member of the dinner committee for a number of years and when she first got involved, spearheaded a plan to increase the number of business ads in the journal. Together with Sandy and a team of dedicated volunteers, we have been able to increase ad revenue by 150% since 2013.

Helping out at the shul is a family affair as the kids assist with setting up Family Learning Night and are active participants in groups, teen minyan and many other activities.

Sandy is from Woodside, NY (go Jets!) and has both a BS and an MBA from St. John’s University. He is currently the Director of Business Development at Playmakers Media in Harrison, NY. Yael is from Buffalo, NY (go Bills!), has a BS from Cornell University and is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries. After 20+ years as a health care consultant, she recently switched to the other side of the table to become the Financial Manager of US Benefits at Skadden Arps law firm in New York City. Having met on a plane from Buffalo to New York in 2002, they have now been married for 14 years (2 TD’s!).

Sandy and Yael are thankful for receiving this honor and are so glad that they chose White Plains, and the Young Israel, to be their home. They are so grateful for everyone who is able to celebrate with them near and far.
